Bishop Castle, dubbed "The Largest One Man Construction Project in the Country",
is located in the Wet Mountain range in Colorado, in between Pueblo and
Westcliff. One guy is actually constructing the castle, using materials found
in the area that he scrounged up.
The castle is about 160 feet tall, and includes a fire breathing dragon on top.
He started building the castle in 1969, and has been adding to it year by year
for over 34 years. I actually met the builder - Jim Bishop - on my first visit
and collected his autograph. He is shown in one of the pictures welding some
of the iron grating used for the various catwalks.
The admission is free to look around the place. The castle can be rented
for weddings, parties and so forth. There is also a gift shop located nearby,
which helps fund the contruction project.
