Island Pictures

These are pictures from around the island of Bonaire. Most of them were taken near the southern tip of the island where the salt flats and slave huts are.

Cargill has a facility that lets sea water into shallow areas that are then dried out to obtain salt. Some of the pictures show the large piles of salt that will eventually be shipped out via the Salt Pier.

The slave huts shown in the pictures were used by the residents who were tasked to work at the salt flats. The huts are very small, made of concrete, and there is barely enough room to stand inside. At least they had a breeze, since the southern portion of the island is pretty windy.
